Harry Potter · Filming location

Divinity School, Bodleian Library

In the story · Philosopher's Stone (film 1, 2001); Chamber of Secrets (film 2, 2002); Prisoner of Azkaban (film 3, 2004); Goblet of Fire (film 4, 2005)

A real filming location. The stone-vaulted room of the Bodleian is the Hogwarts hospital wing in the first films, and in Goblet of Fire Professor McGonagall teaches dancing here before the Yule Ball. Upstairs, Duke Humfrey's Library was the Hogwarts library, where Harry searches the Restricted Section under his invisibility cloak.

Where to stand for the photo

From the entrance, frame the whole length of the room with the carved stone ceiling; the centre line gives the symmetry of the dance lesson.
