King's Cross, Platform 9¾

Harry Potter · Filming location

King's Cross, Platform 9¾

In the story · Philosopher's Stone (film 1, 2001); Chamber of Secrets (film 2, 2002)

A real filming location. Hagrid leaves Harry here with a ticket for platform nine and three-quarters, and Mrs Weasley shows him how to run at the wall between platforms 9 and 10. The wall used in the films is between platforms 4 and 5, renumbered for the shoot; in Chamber of Secrets Harry and Ron find the barrier closed and miss the train. Today a luggage trolley half inside a brick wall, with a Harry Potter shop beside it, waits in the main concourse.

Where to stand for the photo

At the trolley in the concourse, grab the handle as if you were running into the wall. For the real filming spot, look through the ticket gates towards platforms 4 and 5.
