Montalbano's Sicily, at a glance

In the series, Inspector Montalbano lives by the sea in Marinella and works in Vigàta, two invented towns. They were filmed in real places in the province of Ragusa. Start in Punta Secca, the seaside village filmed as Marinella: Montalbano's house on the beach, the lighthouse and Enzo a Mare, the trattoria where he eats, are a few minutes apart on foot. From here you need a car.

Give it two days. One for the coast and Scicli: the town hall of Scicli, filmed as Montalbano's police station (the rooms can be visited), the seafront of Donnalucata and the ruined kiln near Sampieri. One for the Baroque towns: Piazza Duomo in Ragusa Ibla, one of the most filmed corners of Vigàta, and the great staircase in Modica where Montalbano meets Livia, his girlfriend. The Castello di Donnafugata, the mafia boss's villa in one episode, is about 12 km from Punta Secca.

Check before you go: the Castello di Donnafugata is closed on Mondays, and Enzo a Mare was damaged by a storm in January 2026. Montalbano's house is now a B&B, so look at it from the beach.
