Budapest stood in for Italy in much of the 2016 film, and this square is one of its stand-ins. Here, beside the Central Market Hall, the film shot a rainy farewell between Zobrist, the scientist behind the plague plan, and Sienna, his lover. Nothing in the book happens in Budapest.
