Inferno's Florence is a chase that crosses the city in a day. This trip follows it in two: from Porta Romana through the Boboli Gardens and the Vasari Corridor to Palazzo Vecchio, then the streets of Dante.
The stops
1The escape
About these stops
The chase on the south bank of the Arno. From the medieval gate, Langdon and Sienna slip into the Medici gardens behind Palazzo Pitti, then into the covered passage over the bridge. The gardens close on some Mondays; the corridor is only in small booked groups, Tuesday to Sunday.
2The palace
About these stops
The old town hall and its square, at the centre of book and film. Inside, the 'cerca trova' fresco, Dante's death mask and, on a booked tour, the attic above the great hall. The square and the Loggia dei Lanzi are free.
3Dante's Florence
About these stops
The medieval streets where Dante lived, all within a few minutes on foot. The house is a small museum rebuilt in the early 1900s; the abbey of Zobrist's fall opens only at set times; the dome mosaics inside the Baptistery are under restoration.
