Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (often just DDLJ; the title means "the big-hearted will take the bride") is the love story of Raj and Simran, two young Indians who grew up in London. Simran has been promised to a man in Punjab she has never met, but she falls for Raj on a train trip across Europe. In London start at Trafalgar Square, where her father feeds the pigeons, then Leicester Square, with the bronze statue of the couple, and King's Cross, where the train leaves.
The heart of the film is in Switzerland, around Gstaad: Zweisimmen station, where they miss the train, the Gstaad Promenade where Simran dances, the church of Saanen and its station, and the church interior in Montbovon. From Interlaken, home of the Yash Chopra statue, a day trip by train climbs to the snow of the Jungfraujoch.
The Punjab scenes were shot in India: the mustard fields near Gurgaon, which cannot be visited as a precise spot, and the final train at Apta station, two hours from Mumbai. In Mumbai the Maratha Mandir cinema has shown the film every morning since 1995. London, Switzerland and India are three separate trips: plan one at a time.
