Eat Pray Love follows Liz, a New York writer who, after her divorce, spends a year travelling to find herself again: eating in Italy, praying in India and loving in Bali. Its Rome is small and walkable. Start at Piazza Navona, where Liz eats gelato beside two nuns, have a coffee at Caffè Domiziano, where she meets her friend Sofi, and see her flat on Via dei Portoghesi nearby.
In Rome, dinner at Santa Lucia is two minutes from Piazza Navona, Castel Sant'Angelo is across the river, best at sunset, and the Mausoleum of Augustus is a short walk north. Antica Pizzeria da Michele is in Naples, a day trip by fast train. In Bali, base yourself in Ubud: the Ubud Art Market is in the centre, Ketut Liyer's house is just south, and the Tegallalang rice terraces are to the north. Padang Padang Beach is on the south coast, a separate trip.
Check before you go: Da Michele always has a queue, the Mausoleum is closed and seen only from outside, and Ketut Liyer's house is a private family home. The India chapter, filmed at an ashram near Delhi, is left out of this guide. Rome's other classic films, Roman Holiday and La Dolce Vita, are a few streets away.
