House of Gucci (2021) tells the true story of Patrizia Reggiani, who marries Maurizio Gucci, heir to the fashion house, helps him take control of the company and, after he leaves her, has him killed in 1995. Ridley Scott filmed it in real places in Italy. Start on Lake Como: Villa Balbiano, on the shore facing Isola Comacina, is the lake house of Maurizio's uncle Aldo, where the Guccis throw their pool party. It is a private villa, seen from a boat.
Milan is an hour away and can be walked in a day: the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and Piazza del Duomo for the first dates, the university where Patrizia leaves Maurizio her number, Via Montenapoleone and lunch at Il Salumaio, and Villa Necchi Campiglio, the house of Maurizio's father Rodolfo. Rome, a longer trip, played much of Milan: the wedding church of Santa Maria in Campitelli, the Gucci shop on Via dei Condotti, the Coppedè district for the murder, and the Palace of Justice for the trial. The winter holidays in "St. Moritz" were shot in Gressoney-Saint-Jean, at Villa Loubenò and on the Weissmatten slopes.
Villa Balbiano and Villa Loubenò are private and seen only from outside; Villa Necchi Campiglio has paid entry and set opening days, and Il Salumaio needs a booking. Check before you go. The Studio 54 and fashion show sets were built in a warehouse near Rome's airport and at Cinecittà, so they are not listed.
