Assane's Paris, at a glance

Assane is a gentleman thief inspired by the Arsène Lupin novels. Start at the Louvre, the target of his first heist: the auction scene was shot in a reconstruction, but what he is after is the real Galerie d'Apollon, where the French crown jewels were kept. Place Vendôme, where he scouts his heists, and the Musée d'Orsay, where he slips into the crowd, are each about 15 minutes away on foot.

The scenes of Assane walking with his son take you to the Jardin du Luxembourg, near the Medici Fountain, about 25 minutes south of the Louvre. Père Lachaise cemetery is further out, to the east: one day for the centre, then a metro ride.

The Galerie d'Apollon reopened in July 2026 without the jewels: today you come for its painted ceiling and gilded decor. In the same museum, The Da Vinci Code takes you to the Grande Galerie, a few steps away.

The Lupin places people search for most are outside the centre. The Catacombs, where teenage Assane and Benjamin are handed a map of the tunnels, start from Place Denfert-Rochereau: book ahead. Benjamin's antiques shop is in the Marché Biron, at the Saint-Ouen flea market. The cliffs of Étretat, where Part 1 ends, are worth a day trip from Paris.

  • Louvre Museum (Galerie d'Apollon)

The necklace auction in the opening heist takes place in a reconstructed Louvre, but the real Galerie d'Apollon, where the French Crown Jewels were displayed, is exactly what Assane targets. After a real theft in October 2025 it reopened in July 2026 without the jewels: today you come for its painted ceiling and gilded decor.

  • Musée d'Orsay

In the third episode of Part 2, Assane Diop, the gentleman thief played by Omar Sy, steals a valuable painting from this museum and leaves it on the desk of Juliette Pellegrini, his childhood friend. The museum fills a former railway station, and the giant clock window on its top floor is easy to recognise from the series.

  • Place Vendôme

Part 3 opens with a heist at a jeweller on this square: Assane Diop, the gentleman thief played by Omar Sy, goes after a rare black pearl and directs part of the job from the top of the Vendôme column. Omar Sy shot those scenes himself, without special effects. The square is still home to many of the great Paris jewellers.

  • Jardin du Luxembourg

In the second episode of Part 1, Assane Diop, the gentleman thief played by Omar Sy, sets up a meeting in this garden with Juliette Pellegrini, his childhood friend, and then gives the police the slip disguised as a delivery rider. Look for the central pond with its little toy sailing boats, also seen in the series.

  • Père Lachaise Cemetery

In the second episode of Part 3 a funeral is held in this cemetery for Assane Diop, the gentleman thief played by Omar Sy, and police detective Guédira interrupts the burial. As often with Assane, not everything is what it seems. Paris's largest cemetery is worth a walk in its own right, along shady avenues past the graves of Chopin, Oscar Wilde and Édith Piaf.

    • Métro Père Lachaise (L2/L3)

  • Musée Nissim de Camondo

This mansion on the edge of Parc Monceau plays the home of Hubert Pellegrini, the rich businessman who framed Assane's father Babakar for a theft. The courtyard, façade and rooms appear in the flashbacks where Babakar works for the family, and in Part 2 Benjamin Ferel, Assane's best friend, flies a drone from the roof towards Pellegrini's office.

  • Pont des Arts

At the end of the first episode Assane walks across this footbridge with his son Raoul and gives him the Arsène Lupin book that his own father once gave him. It is the moment the whole series hangs on: a father passing the gentleman thief on to his son.

  • Théâtre du Châtelet

The Part 2 finale is set here, at a gala concert hosted by Hubert Pellegrini, where Assane finally moves against him in front of an audience. It was shot during the Covid lockdown: only a few spectators were really in the hall, and the director filled the rest of the crowd in afterwards with green screens.

The historic site of the French national library has two reading rooms in the series. In the Salle Labrouste, with its iron columns and glass domes, Assane and Benjamin look for an accomplice and pick out the journalist Philippe Courbet. In Part 3 Raoul researches Arsène Lupin in the Salle Ovale, and Claire searches the shelves of the Labrouste room.

Near the end of Part 3, Claire and Assane try to meet inside this department store under its glass dome: she waits on the ground floor while he watches from a balcony above. Claire arrives by the Chaussée d'Antin metro exit just outside.

  • Porte Saint-Martin

In the first episode Assane meets Claire, the mother of his son, in L'Appartement, a restaurant on the corner facing this 17th-century triumphal arch. The arch fills the window behind them, and Claire walks past it as she leaves.

After a dinner with Juliette Pellegrini, Hubert's daughter and Assane's childhood friend, that the two leave without paying, they make their getaway past the Arc de Triomphe. In Part 3 Assane's motorbike rides circle it again, and the Part 3 finale was filmed around it.

This small footbridge over the marina between the Seine and Bastille closes Part 2: Assane asks Claire and Raoul to meet him here. It also appears in a Part 1 flashback, where young Assane and Claire talk about baby names. In the Part 2 finale Assane steers a speedboat into the basin.
