In Paris, Scotland Yard watches Elise Clifton-Ward day and night: she is the lover of Alexander Pearce, a man who stole a fortune from a gangster and whom nobody has seen for years. A note from him tells her to take the train to Venice and choose a stranger of his build to fool the police. She picks Frank Tupelo, an American maths teacher on holiday, and pulls him into a chase through Venice. The film starts in Paris, at the Le Nemours café under the Palais-Royal arcades, where Elise reads and burns Alexander's note. She leaves from the Gare de Lyon and arrives at Santa Lucia station, with the Grand Canal right in front of the steps. Le Nemours is also a place of The Intouchables.
In Venice, the Hotel Danieli by St Mark's is the hotel of the suite, but the boat arrival at its door was filmed at Palazzo Pisani Moretta, a private palace you see from vaporetto line 1.
