Bridgerton

In Regency London, the eight Bridgerton brothers and sisters, raised by their widowed mother Violet, look for love during the marriage season, watched by Queen Charlotte and by Lady Whistledown, an anonymous writer whose gossip sheet everyone reads. Each season follows one love story: Daphne and the Duke of Hastings, Anthony and Kate Sharma, Colin and Penelope Featherington, Benedict and Sophie Baek. Made by Shondaland for Netflix, it was filmed in London, Bath and English country houses.

Bridgerton, at a glance

Bridgerton is a Netflix series set in the London of 1813 and after, where eight brothers and sisters look for love during the marriage season. Most of it was filmed in studios, but the outside of the family home is a real house you can visit: Ranger's House in Greenwich. The other famous facades are in Bath: the Featheringtons at No. 1 Royal Crescent and Lady Danbury at the Holburne Museum.

In London, spend a day in Greenwich, where Ranger's House and the Old Royal Naval College are a walk apart, and one in St James's, with Lancaster House and St James's Church, Piccadilly. West of the centre, Hampton Court Palace, Syon House, Osterley Park and House and Ham House make a second day; Painshill Park is in Surrey and Castle Howard in Yorkshire. In Bath everything is on foot: Abbey Green, Trim Street, the Assembly Rooms, the Royal Crescent and the Holburne. Wilton House, the throne room, is a trip to Salisbury.

Check before you go: many houses open only on some days or in the warmer months, Lancaster House is rarely open, and the Assembly Rooms are being prepared for a new visit in 2027. Respect the private homes on the Royal Crescent and the shop on Trim Street. The studio sets at Shepperton and private estates such as Wrotham Park (Aubrey Hall) cannot be visited and are not listed.

  • Ranger's House

A real filming location. The outside of this red brick Georgian villa on the edge of Greenwich Park is Bridgerton House, the Mayfair home of the Bridgertons, a big, loving family of eight brothers and sisters raised by their widowed mother, Violet. It plays the house in every season so far; the rooms inside were built in a studio.

  • Old Royal Naval College

A real filming location, used in several seasons. Its baroque courtyards and colonnades by the Thames stand in for the streets of Regency London. In Season 2, Anthony Bridgerton, the eldest brother, walks here drawing up his list of suitable wives, and a market and the street outside the Featherington house were filmed here. In Season 3 it was the backdrop to the wedding of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington, the shy girl next door who secretly writes as Lady Whistledown.

  • Hampton Court Palace

A real filming location, standing in for the palace of Queen Charlotte, who rules over the London marriage season. In Season 1 the young women arrive in Base Court to be presented to her, scenes with the queen were filmed in Fountain Court, and the Privy Garden plays the outside of her palace. In Season 2 the palace also plays the printing press on Chancery Lane where Eloise Bridgerton, the rebellious sister, meets Theo Sharpe.

  • Lancaster House

A real filming location. The gilded rooms of this 1820s mansion next to St James's Palace play the inside of Queen Charlotte's palace. In Season 2 the queen has a heart to heart with Edwina Sharma, the young debutante engaged to Anthony Bridgerton, in the royal jewel room, after the ailing King George III appears without warning.

  • St James's Church, Piccadilly

A real filming location. This church by Christopher Wren hosts the wedding of Anthony Bridgerton and Edwina Sharma, the day it all goes wrong because Anthony is in love with her older sister, Kate. A key romantic moment between Anthony and Kate was filmed here too.

  • Syon House

A real filming location. In Season 2 the first ball of the season, given by Lady Danbury (the sharp, wise widow who rules society), takes place in the Great Conservatory, the glass dome in the gardens, where Anthony and Kate first recognise each other in society. In Season 1 the Great Hall of the house was used for the London home of Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings.

  • Osterley Park and House

A real filming location (National Trust). In Season 3 its courtyard and Entrance Hall host the Full Moon Ball. In Season 4 the Garden House in the grounds is where Benedict Bridgerton, the artistic second brother, makes a candlelit proposal to Sophie Baek, a maid he first met as a masked stranger, and where they later say goodbye by day. The servants' hall became a cheap pub.

  • Ham House

A real filming location (National Trust). In Season 4 this 17th century house by the Thames plays several places: the terrace of Bridgerton House during the masquerade ball, where Benedict meets Sophie, the mysterious Lady in Silver; Penwood House, where Sophie works for her cruel stepmother; and My Cottage, Benedict's country home. Its old kitchen was used too.

  • Painshill Park

A real filming location. This 18th century landscape garden plays London's parks. In Season 1, Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest daughter, and Simon, Duke of Hastings, stroll across its Five Arch Bridge during their pretend courtship. In Season 3 the hot air balloon scene was filmed near the lake and the Gothic Temple.
