About Arc de Triomphe

Napoleon ordered the arch in 1806, after the victory at Austerlitz, and it was finished in 1836. Since 1921 the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from the First World War has lain beneath it, with a flame rekindled every evening. A climb of 284 steps leads to the roof terrace, with a view of the twelve avenues that start from the Place Charles de Gaulle, the Champs-Élysées among them. Reach it through the underground passage: never cross the roundabout on foot.
