A Moveable Feast · Place in the book
12 Rue de l'Odéon
In the story · Chapter “Shakespeare and Company”
Sylvia Beach's original Shakespeare and Company, the bookshop and lending library that published Joyce's Ulysses. With no money for books, Hemingway borrowed them here, and Beach told him to take as many as he liked. The shop closed in 1941 and a plaque marks the façade; the Shakespeare and Company by the Seine is a later shop.
