About Notre-Dame Cathedral

Building work on Notre-Dame began in 1163 on the Île de la Cité, the island where Paris was born. The fire of 15 April 2019 destroyed its roof and spire, and the cathedral reopened in December 2024 after five years of restoration. Entry to the cathedral is free. The square in front, the parvis, is also kilometre zero, the point from which road distances in France are measured.
