About Luxembourg Gardens

The garden was created from 1612 for Queen Marie de' Medici, around the Luxembourg Palace, which is now the seat of the French Senate. Parisians come for the green metal chairs around the large octagonal pond, where children push small sailing boats. In a shady corner stands the Medici Fountain, with its long pool under the plane trees. Entry is free and the gates open from morning to dusk.
