King Louis IX had the Sainte-Chapelle built inside his palace on the Île de la Cité to hold the Crown of Thorns, and it was consecrated in 1248. The upper chapel is walled almost entirely with stained glass: fifteen tall windows tell 1,113 scenes from the Bible. Much of the glass is original from the 13th century, one of the largest collections of its kind still in place. Come on a sunny morning, when the light comes through the windows.
